Wine Tasting: Chocolate shop

Image
This dessert wine is from Columbia Valley, Washington and the big thing about this wine is that THEY DO NOT LIST ANYTHING ON THE BOTTLE OR THEIR WEBSITE. I scoured the internet to find out where they were from and thats the only piece of information I found. There is no listed vintage. There are no listed grapes, just the fact that its a red wine blend. It made it so aggravating to write a blog about. This wine was placed around $11.  The winemaker notes on this bottle are," experience the pure decadence of smooth red wine bleded with velvety chocolate essence. fruit Forward aromas of black cherry and dark chocolate lead to a kiss of sweetnessand a balanced finish. Sip. Savor. and indulge in this classic pairing crafted for moments of pure enjoyment." and oh did they not hold back on the cherry and chocolate mix. Thats all I can taste.  The aroma characteristics (with some mistakes due to my allergies) from using the wine folly aroma chart, https://shop.winefolly.com/collecti

Apothic Rose: 2021

Image
This rose is made from Tempranillo grapes of California and priced around $15. The winemaker notes on this wine are," Layers of strawberry and watermelon with a hint of raspberry, for a refreshing wine that is light in color yet dark in nature." Using the wine folly aroma wheel, https://shop.winefolly.com/collections/tool/products/wine-aromas-chart, this wine smells of strawberry, and vanilla.  Personally, this rose is extremely sweet. The sugar coats my tongue and stays long after I've taken a drink. The primary flavor I get from this drink is strawberry, but not a natural strawberry. It tastes almost like a strawberry dum-dum. I definitely didnt enjoy this wine as much as the others I've tried during this semester. If I was to rate this, I'd give it a 4/10. It just didnt give me other vibes than an uncarbonated strawberry syrup.

Natura: Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

Image
This Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon was made with 100% Cabernet sauvignon grapes. The best thing about this vineyard is that they pride themselves over having the grapes organically grown. The winemakers notes from this wine is," Bright lively ruby color. Aromas of ripe, red and black berries with a touch of chocolate. Fresh and juicy palate has a good structure and sweet, smooth tannins ,persistent finish.  The aroma, using the wine folly aroma chart, https://shop.winefolly.com/collections/tool/products/wine-aromas-chart, has notes of potting soil, tobacco, cherries, and chocolate. When tasting the wine I was immediately hit with the earthy, tannic flavor. It was also extremely dry. I give this drink a 6/10 because I wouldnt drink more than a glass of this extremely weird wine.

Clean Slate: 2021 Riesling

Image
This $13 dry Riesling from Mosel, Germany is made out from 100% Riesling.  The winemaker notes on this wine are "Ripe peach flavors balance lively acidity, hints of lime and characteristic minerality." Using the wine folly aromatic aromatics wheel, https://shop.winefolly.com/collections/tool/products/wine-aromas-chart, this wine has notes of peach, lemon, green apple, and orange. Its filled with citrusy fruit! Dinking this wine and reading the back of the wine bottle, I got strong, " glacial lemon water with apricots floating down a stream" like flavor. It is extremely refreshing and gives me images of sunshine peaking through the treeline of a bright green forest. I gave this wine an 8/10

Starling Castle: Gewurztraminer

Image
Wednesday night and the bad batch season finale is out! Damn did I make a mistake drinking wine... so many tears were poured out tonight, but back to the wine! The Starling Castle, Gewurztraminer was imported from Pfalz Germany and damn is it extremely sweet. Unfortunately, this wine didnt indicate a vintage. On the scale, it actually is listed as " more than semi-sweet, but off of the usual wines that I taste, this one is loaded with sugar. This wine generally costs about $10, so I guess for that price, its fantastic.  Online, I found that this wine has notes of peach, sweet orange, cinnamon, and honey flavors. In my case, I feel like this tastes like a candied apple or honey glazed apple. I definitely get notes of cinnamon, but there is a strong honey flavor. I did have it with some chicken alfredo, but unfortunately I feel like it made the wine worse. The acidity came out to play and gave me a sharp green apple flavor which was way too strong to drink with the alfredo. When u

2021 Piesporter Michelsberg: Riesling Kabinett

Image
Tuesday Wine night, Today we have a Riesling from Piesport, Germany and was priced around $13. In Vivino, many people found that this wine had strong green apple, pear, and citrus flavors. Using the Wine Folly flavor chart, https://shop.winefolly.com/collections/tool/products/wine-aromas-chart, the aromas from this wine present a green apple, honey smell. this is also brought forth in the actual tasting of the wine. After eating a few bites of Jerk chicken, the acidity of this wine died down and presented only fruity, pear and pineapple flavors. If I had to rate this riesling, Id give it a solid 9/10. I could drink this over and over again and never grow tired of it

Valpolicella Classico 2020

Image
This beautiful red is from the Gamba winery in Verona Italy (and I luckily bought this wine for less than $15) The grapes in this wine are Corvina, Rondinella, Molinara, and Corvinone! Using the vivino app, I found out that the general rating of this wine is a 3.4 out of 5.   This wine packs a powerful sour cherry punch with a dash of pomegranate and blueberry. I would definitely eat something big and juicy, like a steak, with this wine. I unfortunately didnt drink this with food and suffered the consequences. I cant help but wonder though. This wine smacks you in the face with cherries, but if you were to age this wine how strong would the punch be then? It's definitely an idea worth experimenting with. Ill give this wine a 6/10 though. I cant see myself drinking this wine on a regular basis.
