The Ned. 2021 Pinot Gris

Image
Today's wine is The Ned's 2021 orange pinot gris! Sticking to the red wine tannins, this wine was allowed to soak in the skins of the grape to give the orange color. Alongside this wine, I pulled out Manchester smoked cheddar and salami to see if it would enhance the flavor.        I started off with a taste of the wine to try it by itself and I was hit with a crisp apricot-like flavor. With this flavor came the normal white wine bitter aftertaste. After eating a bit of the cheese, the aftertaste quickly went away and was replaced with the sharpness of the cheddar. The apricot flavor also was enhanced and brought up a peachy flavor.  Overall, for an orange white wine, I'd give this a solid 7 out of 10. It is definitely a fruit forward type drink and presented itself with a fuller body, much like a red wine would.

2/27- Tilia Bonarda 2020

This beautiful red wine from Mendoza Argentina was enjoyed with a delicious NY strip. While drinking this bonarda, I initially was hit with a pungent perfume- like aroma. After taking a few sips and a few bites of steak, the perfume died down into a sour cherry, earthy mixture.  After my meal, as I continued sipping the wine it began to dry out my tongue. This wine is definitely made to be with food. With food, I'd give this wine a 7 out of 10, but alone Ill give this wine a 5 out of 10. While heavy bodied and fruitful in flavor, the dryness of the wine eventually got to me and I had to doc some points.

Canyon Road Merlot - 2021

Image
Friday night, wine night! Tonight is Canyon Road Merlot! This light bodied red wine has notes of cherry, blackberry, and a spice that I just cant define. This wine is one the drier side, but goes down easy due to its light body. My personal description would be berry water. out of 10, Id rate this wine a 5. While being a delicious drink, it tastes like a watered down zinfandel or a watered down heavy red wine. Off of personal preference, I have to rate this one lower than the zinfandel.

Scotto Zinfandel

Valentines day and my girlfriend isn't here. YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS! Boys night, wine night. Tonight this wine was paired with a delicious meal. A gorgeous steak with yellow onions. The wine tonight is a 2017 Zinfandel from Lodi, California. This beautiful Zinfandel has hints of cherry, blackberry and an oak undertone. Which paired nicely with the New York Strip with McCormick Montreal steak seasoning (yes I know I couldve done better but I'm in college and I didnt feel like cooking). Overall if I had to rate this pairing, Id give a 7/10. The first few sips were extremely acidic, but after a few bites the taste mellowed out and allowed for other flavors to present themselves.   While sipping on the wine afterwards, the flavor continued to be fruity with the subtle oak in the background. On its own, Id give this wine a 7/10.
